Body Rockin into 2012

It's time for another work out. I am bored and want to be challenged. Through the power of twitter a friend of mine here in the ATX (@melruns) challenged me to this:
One word...well actually 2...HOLY SHIT! Where has this treasure of a blog been hiding? How did I not know about this MOST FANTASTIC website EVER?! This is exactly what I've been searching for. And yes, 550 reps. You did read that right. Best thing? NO equipment. Just you and your body. This little "challenge" is most definitely challenging, but in the best way possible. I always believed I pushed myself when I worked out, but doing this specific workout, WOW. I sweated like crazy and felt like I would never be able to catch my breath. At the end I was shaky all over and thought I was just going to pass out! This is a timed workout. The girl demonstrating each of the moves did it in like 23 minutes! Me? First time I took about 55 minutes. My goal is to only take 23 minutes like she did. BIG shoes to fill. BIG!
Here are the 11 exercises that are performed and timed:

  • BACKWARD LUNGE KICK UP25 reps on each leg
  • WALK OVER PUSH UP50 reps
  • ONE LEG BRIDGE LEG LIFT25 reps on each leg
  • ONE ARM TRICEP PUSH UP25 reps on each arm
  • STAR CRUNCH50 reps
  • DIAGONAL TOUCH DOWN25 reps on each side
  • SIDE PLANK LIFT25 reps on each side
  • ONE LEG WALL SIT25 reps on each leg

Check out Body Rock TV for more awesome workouts! I will be doing these workouts for awhile so if you decide to as well, let me know. We can push each other!

These boots are made for walking

One word for you...CROCS. Yup you heard me.

I got the opportunity to work with Crocs and never knew they had boots! Now y'all know I am not a cover my toes kinda girl...but aren't these CUTE?! They retail for $79.99 on their website. I'm boring and got the black on black pair. I figured they would go with everything.

Accountability meet my planner

To stay on top of my workouts, I started writing them down in my planner. Yes I have an iPhone with a calendar app and yes I do have an app where I can schedule my workouts as well. But I've done that and it just does not work out for me. I would ALWAYS ignore my alerts of when my workout was supposed to start. I'm one of those free spirits that works out whenever I want. I can't be handcuffed to time. And because of that reason, I have actually missed workouts. Actually I would still workout, doing something random instead of what I actually planned.
No more. I look at my actual "book" planner at least 5 times a day and I write in it just as much. Such a better place to schedule my workouts.
As y'all already know I get pretty bored with workouts pretty fast. I've been researching new workouts I want to try and writing them in my planner. I also love doing "challenges" so those get put in my planner as well. No more boredom because I'll be changing it up quite often. And writing them in planner means I won't forget about more wondering what I'm going to do next.
I'm in the process of "cleaning it up" but I will post a picture of what my planner actually looks like in case anyone wants to try my method.

How do you hold yourself accountable? Do you schedule your workouts in advance?

NOTD - Gold

Decided to rock some gold polish :-) The color is Revlon's Top Speed in Gold Rush. I originally wanted only one coat but when I finally seen it on my nails I just had to add another coat.

(Sorry the lighting totally sucks in my room)

New workout: NTC + Bar Method

Once again, I have gotten bored with my workouts. I started another round of Insanity but just as quickly as I started I stopped. It was still as challenging as the first time I did it but I just didn't have that same commitment to it. So I'll try another round of Insanity after the new year. A bloggy friend of mine, Steph over at Babes Rockin Mami started P90x and has been going strong. I would love to join her on that journey but like I said, I just don't have that commitment set in my head right now.
So I am back to my NTC workouts. If you haven't downloaded the app yet, you need to do it NOW!!! I am also doing the bar method workouts as well. What is The Bar Method you ask...well here is what is found on the website...

The Bar Method in Brief
The Bar Method™workout creates a uniquely lean, firm, sculpted body by combining the muscle-shaping principles of isometrics, the body-elongating practice of dance conditioning, the science of physical therapy and the intense pace of interval training into a powerful exercise format that quickly and safely reshapes and elongates muscles.

Lean, firm, sculpted body? Sign me up! Oh this method burns so bad, but oh so good! My legs shake during the workouts and after too. It's been a long time since I've done any type of formal dance and felt like a fat slob at first LOL. I know it gets better. And I can't wait to show you my "new" body after this entire month of doing it along side NTC. My workout is as follows:
Week 1 and 3: Monday, Wednesday, Friday = NTC and Tuesday, Thursday = Bar Method
Week 2 and 4: Monday, Wednesday, Friday = Bar Method and Tuesday, Thursday = NTC
*never repeating the same NTC workout over those 4 weeks*

I have been eating so much better too. I used to eat out at least 4 times a week for lunch but I can happily say that I have been taking a lunch to work everyday for almost 2 weeks now. Good stuff too! Its either left overs from the night before or a tuna sandwich and some fruit. I did over indulge on thanksgiving a bit but that hasn't stopped me from working out at least. I am paying for it, trust me.

Another great shopping day!

Oh Black Friday...I didn't venture out this year and by the news reports I saw, I'm sure glad I didn't! CRAZY!! I read on FB that 2 women got into a fist fight over the last $2.00 waffle maker at Walmart! I did go out to Walmart with my MIL later on during the day and it was just like any other day with regular crowds, but definitely messier.
Yesterday, thanks to American Express, was designated small business Saturday. I did venture out for this. We even ate at local food places too. Got some great one of a kind stuff that I know everyone will love.
And tomorrow...Ahhhh Cyber Monday. Online shopping at its finest! I haven been holding onto my $25 gift card to Amazon for a month and a half now and its definitely burning a hole in my pocket.

So in cyber Monday spirit, I am having a sale for Jamberry Nails! They make GREAT stocking stuffers!!
To take advantage of the sale, all orders will need to be placed through my facebook page or you can email them to me. I am offering extra incentives to those that "LIKE" my facebook page that include free sheet with purchase and 1/2 price sheets.

Soft, gorgeous skin

The other day at work, a lady I work with complimented me on my "soft, gorgeous skin." Now she didn't actually touch me. She said she could tell it was soft just by looking at me.
There is one word when it comes to the weather here in central Texas...DRY. No matter if its cold or hot its DRY. Mix that dry, cold weather with some wind, a clear sunny sky, and hard water and what you get is DRY ASS SKIN! I see all these lotions claiming to seal in moisture, but I don't like how thick they are, and it takes forever to rub it in. Sheesh I don't got time for's getting cooler which means any extra time I'm not spending with the dudes and getting them settled for the night is time I need to be curled up with Big Daddy.
My secret to my soft skin? It's non other than Johnson's baby oil with aloe and vitamin e. That's it. Nothing more. It absorbs into my skin quickly too. I shower at night and put in on as soon as I get out. Well, I don't completely towel dry...I pat my skin down first, then I apply the oil all over my body (except for my face - I have combo skin, which oddly enough, seems to get more oily in the winter). I love the way I feel when I slide into bed after.
Got the dry skin blues? Try some baby oil and let me know what you think!

P.S. baby oil is a great to remove make up too

*I was not contacted by Johnson's or any affiliate working with or for them. This is my own experience with the product that I wanted to share*

No excuses

Its Sunday and I am on day 6 = 13 burpees! If you don't remember, I started with 8 burpees. I am at a point where I wanna "show off" so I've added 1 push up and jump at the end of my last burpee. I am very proud of myself. Something so simple can easily be forgotten, but not this time. I have set up an alarm on my phone to go off everyday at the same time. No excuses.

I still am writing what I eat everyday. I had to stop blogging it because everytime I did a post, I would get an email saying that it "was removed for suspicious content." Anyone else ever had that happen? Anyways...I will try posting again. I have been "writing" what I eat on my ical. I'm on my laptop everyday for work so there is no way that I should forget. Its starting to come like second, write, eat, write. No excuses.

I have been waking up early every morning now for about a week. I want to start walking the dog and eventually run with the dog every morning. So I had to "get ready"LOL. Waking up early has never been a problem for me. Especially since I wake up early to get the dudes' stuff ready for school and of course make them breakfast. I figure if I wake up an hour earlier than I normally do, I can take the dog out, shower, and enjoy some "me" time before waking up the dudes for breakfast. Everybody needs "me" time. No excuses.

Burpee challenge

*first I would like to start off by saying that my post from Friday night which included what I ate on Thursday and Friday was "removed because of suspicious content." What the eff right?!*

I found out about an awesome fitness challenge on twitter yesterday: the 30 day burpee challenge. You know I'm always looking for interesting work out so I am giving this a try. The gist is, depending on your fitness level, you do a certain amount of burpees on day 1. Each day after that, for 30 days, you increase that number by one. So if you're a beginner, beginner, day 1 you do 1, day 2 you do 2...and so on and so on. You can read more about it here.
According to the post, I fall into the intermediate level so today, day 1, I started with 8 burpees. Got my heart beating and everything. Felt good.
Will you join me? I think you should.

I'm hungry...

I know why I work out as much as I do and just today in fact I voiced that reason out loud to a bunch of people and was met with the OMG face. I've said before and I say it again...I like food. I LOVE food. I workout as hard and as often as I do because I like to eat. If I eat "cleaner" I have the ability to become that nice "skinny" that I love. But damnit its hard! I've been writing down what I eat for 4 days now and sheesh...I really do eat like to eat whatever. Over the weekend I'm going to re-do how I shop for groceries and start buying more clean as well. Wish me luck.

10/11/11 - Tuesday
Breakfast: garlic bagel with sun dried tomato cream cheese, water
Snack: handful of M&Ms
Lunch: slice of Home slice pizza (no sauce, cheese, tomatoes and basil), water to drink
Snack: chips, water

Snack: none

10/12/11 - Wednesday
Breakfast: onion bagel with butter, water
Snack: none
Lunch: leftover pizza from yesterday (same kind), water

In 5 months a very good friend of mine is getting married. She made a commitment to herself to lose weight and she is doing absolutely great. She signed up at a local gym and everything making fitness a priority in her life. She has made several comments to me on how I am a great friend and workout motivator and I just love her even more. You can't do it alone. I told her I would be her support system :-).
Yesterday she tells me that she is starting weight watchers again, which got me thinking. I really should be writing down what I eat and actually sticking to writing it down. I workout a ton and say I'm trying to eat healthier, but really I don't think I'm trying hard enough. It's so easy for me to forget to make healthier choices.I will choose a greasy hamburger or fried chicken over anything healthy really. I want to eat healthier. So to hold myself accountable, I am going to document what I eat here on my blog instead of just a notebook. I think that if I continuously SEE what I am eating, then maybe it will make me choose healthier options.

10/10/11: Monday
Breakfast: maple & brown sugar oatmeal (1 packet), water
Snack: 5 pretzels, water
Lunch: leftovers from Sunday night (BBQ riblets, mac & cheese with peas), water to drink
Snack: handful of peanut m&ms, water
Dinner: ramen noodles with hot sauce added, water to drink
Snack: no pre-bedtime snack

I will post what I ate today tomorrow. Here's to healthier eating choices :)

I graduated! Now what?

2 months ago today I started Insanity. In the middle of it, I got bit by the sick bug and even started to lose interest. But I am happy to say that I have graduated! I have slimmed down so much and feel so much stronger. I am eating a lot better and have more energy for my dudes.

*not so pouchy around the stomach anymore*

*this has to be my most fave picture to date lol*

So what's a girl to do now? On my quest to "teeny tiny" I decided that I am going to start some Tracey Anderson workouts. If I like them, I will go ahead an pursue doing Metamorphosis. I hopped on youtube this morning and found 2 specifically for abs and the other specifically for arms. One word: different. Very non traditional, and I like that. I would say kinda kooky LOL. So I did both. And I must say, my abs and arms were burning. I think this is a good work out coming off of Insanity. I'll keep you posted.
Here's the abs webisode I found. Give it a try. Let me know what you think.

boot season? not yet...

I don't remember what site I got this from. If you know, please tell me

HOW FREAKING CUTE! And I don't like pink like that. Yes fall is coming. Yes boots are cute for fall. But its still 100+ degrees here in Austin. So I will be wearing these with a little mini skirt and a cute white blouse. Oh I actually don't own these...yet. But I have plans to purchase these soon.

The skinny on ME wanting to be skinny

Earlier this week, Tuesday in fact, one of Big Daddy's best friends told me that I lost a lot of weight. We went swimming at the pool and when we got out to dry off and leave is when he said it. I gave high fives all around LOL. In response I proudly said, "yup 9 almost 10 pounds." I was beaming! Big Daddy had a smile on his face too, like a proud husband should. Except wait...were they saying I was fat?! Eh, wtf-ever. I admit, I was on the chubby, jiggly side since summer started. Well anyways, last night the dudes and I went to one of my friend's houses for dinner with her and her kids. Well we're getting ready for dinner and her youngest daughter comes up to me and gives me a hug and goes, "wow you're sooo skinny now." You know I smiled from ear to ear.

Before doing Insanity I wasn't fat. I was more like skinny fat. I had belly flab/love handles (stretched skin from my last 2 pregnancies), my thighs were jiggly and rubbed when I walked. I am a very petite girl. VERY. I'm only 4 ft 7. So being short and chubby was not going to cut it. I want to wear shorts and jeans without the flab coming up over the top. I like working out, but the only way to get rid of the flab was to do more cardio. Big Daddy suggested running. "Running will definitely get rid of the extra" is what he said. But I don't like running. I honestly find it pointless. That's a whole nother (LOL) discussion right there! So we decided to do Insanity...together. And it definitely paid off!

I WANT to be skinny. I WANT to be sexy. I don't think that skinny = sexy by any means. I just want to be skinny. I don't have a recent after picture, but here is my before (I believe this was taken like the beginning of the 2nd week of about a month and a half ago)...
See that belly pouch...pooch...whatever its disgusting. I don't want to be Kate Moss model skinny. Just skinny. I love my legs and want them to be more toned. (P.S. please don't mind the socks, I couldn't find any workout socks) I honestly would love to get my high school cheerleading body back. Yup there it is. I want that body back. And the good thing is that I can get that body back. I've come a long way. Up and down with working out and now finally back to consistency. I'm even eating "better." (That's code for not eating everything in site anymore)

Most people work out to just be healthy. I can honestly say my reasons are pretty vain. I wanna be bikini ready all year long. I want to get out the shower and my husband just attack me. I want to look like "damn she looks good for having 4 children" good. I want to have the body that other women wish they had. I want to be curvy skinny...meaning I don't want my hips to go away or my booty either ;) I can and will add boobs later on down the road.

But goals are not your goals. YOU know what you want from your workouts. If you want to be vain too, go right ahead. Do you. Don't let anyone else tell you that your views on what you want to be or look like are wrong or dumb. Workout for yourself first and foremost. Whether its for health reasons or not work out for YOU.

It's ok to cheat sometimes

In the food department of course :)
I like food. A lot. Like I really love food. Take my tweet this morning:

See? I call these my inner fat kid tweets. Where all I can think about is the not good for me stuff.
I have been pretty good about what I am eating though. My snacking has gone from that of a teenage boy to cherry tomatoes, hummus and pita, and even carrot and celery sticks. Man I feel like a grown up. But of course every now and then, like this morning for example I want junk. So you know what? I ate junk. Why kill myself wanting something. I didn't get Starbucks or that greasy yummy breakfast taco. I went for the big guns...M&Ms baby! I think I ate a handful and felt like a kid again. I ate a couple more and just sat in chocolate heaven. Junk food craving fixed.
So the point you ask? Do NOT deprive yourself. If you want to eat something that goes against your "diet" or good eating habits, just do it. One time. Its ok to step away and cheat. Just remember to not over indulge. And NEVER punish yourself for those M&Ms or a doughnut or a caramel frap. Just one. I let myself cheat at least once a week without guilt.

Do you allow yourself to cheat? If so, whats your most favorite cheat?

Allergies can't stop me! (Friday fit tip)

We are in the middle of a drought here and the allergens are out! Grass and elm have been at a 5% percent here. Sucks because we are such an outdoor family. Well with my allergies kicking my butt, Big Daddy suggested that I skip my cardio work outs yesterday and today ntil my body is at a 100% again. That way I don't actually make myself sick. So instead of jumping and running and doing drills I will be doing some basic yoga. Nothing too aggressive. Just basically a warm up to keep my muscles active without too much activity. I found this video this morning. Its a basic warm up for detox and stress relief. remember to always remember your breathing.

Insanity + NTC

First some good news...
I stepped on the scale I think it was Tuesday and was pleasantly impressed. I lost about 9 pounds! It was a great feeling. I know it could be more. I know I need to start eating cleaner and I would be set. Big Daddy and I are going to try. TRY. I can't make any promises. But thank goodness he's going to eat cleaner with me. It makes it a little easier.
This week I have been alternating my Insanity max work outs with Nike Training Club work outs. It has been HECTIC. But I am enjoying it. Insanity has gotten more challenging. It feels like day 1 all over again.  I thought I sweat before but god damn! LOL.
Nike Training Club. If you still haven't downloaded the app you NEED to.  Its great for those who don't have a lot of time. There are four "types" of work outs and in each type the work outs are broken up into beginner, intermediate and advanced. Trust me its awesome and geared FOR WOMEN!
I may not be eating as well as I would like but I do know that I am definitely NOT over eating. I eat like 5-6 small meals a day. My snacking has gotten so much better. I now snack on cheese sticks, cherry tomatoes, and granola instead of m&ms or chips. I do allow myself to satisfy a craving but I never over do it. Like pizza...mmmmmm. Its my fave food ever! But I know its not good for me. But yesterday I swear it was calling my name! Oh that cheesey goodness. One slice and I was in heaven! Cravings in moderation. :)

Oh what a difference 1 week makes

So that week I was sick...WOW. All I thought about was working out. I started back working out last Monday. It was core cardio & recovery week for Insanity. PERFECT. I don't think I would have been able to jump around like I had been before getting sick. I thought I was going to experience sore muscles but didn't. I did a lot of stretching too. It was hot all last week and so we spent a lot of time at a friend's pool. GREAT way to relax muscles.
I did not wake up early this morning to start back to full Insanity so I will be doing it tonight. pray for me LOL

Have you ever heard of suitcases? No, not the luggage kind. But the exercise kind. why its called suitcases is beyond me, but I promise it is FANTASTIC! I may (or may not) have mentioned. That I downloaded an app for my iPhone called Nike Training Center. Its a workout app for women with TONS of workouts!! I downloaded this awhile back for when I get bored with my regular workout routine. Anyhoo...suitcases. Ya...WOW. I did this 2 times last week with core cardio & recovery and all I can say is wow. I hope you enjoy it too...and yes...Hope Solo :)

Back from the dead

Towards the end of the week last week, BamBam brought home a bug. and that bug decided it wanted to take over my body. So I have been hot/warm/hot/warm, chills, throwing up, head aches, and body aches since last Friday up until about mid day yesterday (Tuesday). I felt weak all weekend because I couldn't eat anything but drink alka seltzer and water. I feel great today but I know I cannot start back Insanity until I am a 100% or else I could make myself sick again. I ate lunch yesterday, but that was the only thing that I ate. Hopefully my appetite will return back to normal by tomorrow so I can start back working out.
Boy have I changed! I never thought I would ever be like that-->can't wait to start working out again. Big Daddy is like that, but never me lol. I mean I enjoy it a lot because its fun but now I feel like I NEED it. My day feels off not working out. Good stuff, good stuff.

OMG and when did I become so addicted to make up? ;-)
Since I felt better last night I totally just played make up. Yup all by my lonesome. At like mid-night too lol. I was trying to "re-create looks" that I've seen on other blogs or on youtube. Had tons of freaking my closet. Ya Big Daddy was asleep and I didn't want to wake him up. Wish I had better light. Oh well. I'm going to try one new look like every week or 2. Tee-hee! I'm such a girl!

Insanity - week 3

Its been a busy priority gone haywire kind of week for me. Week far has been really hard for me. Not the workouts being hard but the finding time to workout. I've taken on a couple extra things with work so my days of working out every morning before work has changed. I am now working out after dinner.

Fit test was scheduled for Monday but I thought it was Tuesday so did my Tuesday workout but really it was Monday. LMAO. Did y'all get that? THAT'S how my mind has been this week. So I did my fit test on Tuesday and am extremely proud of my results:

Man those globe jumps are a killer! each "one" is four jumps total! You know I thought it would be easier this second time, but eff that! It was just as hard as the first. I think I sweated even more this time.

My wrists, I think, have gotten a lot stronger. Push ups are not hurting my wrists anymore. I think my arms hate me, but that'll soon pass too.
When I started Insanity, weirdly enough, I was having a hard time sleeping at night. I think it was because my body was just not used to the changes. I can say that this week my only complaint as far as sleep goes, I am sleeping later. I think its because I am now working out at night and my body has to "calm down" before actually going to sleep. Hopefully this too shall pass. But I am sleeping a little better. I don't wake up very often like I used to.
I stepped on the scale and lost maybe 3 pounds...ONLY 3 POUNDS?! I WAS upset until Big Daddy told me that my weight has been distributed to different parts of my muscles are heavier. Whew. But doesn't that sound like a load of bull? Just sayin...
Boy oh boy am I horny all the time lol. Which sucks this week since I started.

Lots of changes again this week. I believe its awesome progress. Tonight its my fave work out: cardio recovery. I'll be pairing it with cardio abs as well. See ya next week :)
